What are AI Agents?

Recurring Tasks

Written by Sophia Siddig

An AI Agent is like a digital employee: a fixed instruction plus a matching skill set that handles tasks independently – in chat, automated in the background, or directly in your workflows.

AI Agents are currently in beta (marked as such in the tool). You may still run into the occasional bug – we'd love to hear your feedback.

How do I address an agent?

Address it with "@" in AI Chat/Assistant and give it a task.

How do I create an agent?

AI Chat can create and edit Agents. There's also an extensive Marketplace where you can import ready-made Agents, including their skills.

Can Agents take on recurring tasks?

Yes. You can have tasks run on a regular schedule – handled by an Agent or without one. The result can take different forms:

  • an action in contentbird (e.g. a content piece gets created)

  • the result as a PDF

  • the start of a chat session, which you can then continue

Every run is saved in the history with a short summary and can be reviewed at any time. You can also trigger a task manually whenever you like. Important: tasks are user-specific – if you create one, only you can see it. If a run fails, you automatically get an email; optionally, you can also have an email sent to you after every successful run.

Can Agents also be used in workflows?

Yes. In addition to users and groups, you can now also assign an Agent to a workflow task. The assignment is made via an instruction – either as free text or via a saved prompt template. Once it's the Agent's turn, the task starts automatically by default (though this can be switched to manual start). Every Agent run is logged in the history, and the result is added as a comment directly on the workflow task. The Agent then marks the task as done, and the next task is activated – which in turn can also be handled by an Agent.

What's the difference to a Skill?

A Skill is a single capability. An Agent bundles one or more Skills together with a fixed instruction into an independently working "digital employee."
