Introduction

Custom elements help you structure and manage content more efficiently in the Content Editor. Instead of placing all information within the main body text, you can use additional fields to create a clearer and more scalable content setup.

Function Overview

Custom elements are additional input fields that you can use alongside the main editor in a content ticket. They allow you to manage specific types of content separately and keep everything well-structured.

These elements are especially useful when working with standardized content or when certain types of information need to be captured repeatedly.

Typical use cases include:

  • Managing SEO data such as meta title and meta description

  • Creating structured content with defined building blocks

  • Supporting recurring content formats

You can define which types of elements you need. Available options include:

  • Text fields

  • Images

  • Videos

  • Files

Usage and Setup

Create and assign custom elements

Custom elements are defined centrally and then assigned to a content type.

Follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings → System → Types

  • Select the desired content type

  • Scroll to the “Custom Elements” section

  • Activate the elements you want to use

Optionally, you can also define templates for recurring content, such as boilerplates for press releases.

Use custom elements in the editor

In your daily work, custom elements are available directly in the content ticket:

  • Located on the left side under “Custom Elements”

  • Can be filled independently of the main editor

  • Provide better structure, especially for SEO texts or landing pages

Create a custom editor structure

Custom elements allow you to build a tailored editor setup, which is particularly useful for structured content formats.

Examples:

  • Separate fields for headings (H1, H2)

  • Introduction or teaser text fields

  • Image or video elements

This creates a customized editorial environment for each content type.

Using the elements-only editor

You can define a content type that is managed exclusively through custom elements—without using the traditional text editor.

This is especially useful for:

  • Highly structured content

  • Recurring templates

  • Teams working with clearly defined content blocks

Conclusion

Custom elements extend the Content Editor with flexible, structured input options. They help you organize content more effectively, simplify team workflows, and create scalable content processes—especially for SEO, social media, and standardized formats.
