What are Custom Fields?

Custom fields are individually configurable input fields that allow you to structure and categorize your content pieces in a consistent way—much more precisely than using tags alone.

What are Custom Fields used for?

Typical use cases include:

  • Capturing additional information (e.g. market, product, campaign)

  • Strategic classification (e.g. topic clusters like “Thought Leadership”)

  • Controlling & planning (e.g. budget, effort)

Available Field Types

You can choose from different input types:

  • Free text

  • Single select (dropdown)

  • Multi select

  • Number field (including sum function)

Optional settings:

  • Define as required field

  • Enable automatic sum calculation

How to Create Custom Fields

📍 Settings → System → Custom Fields

  1. Create a new field (e.g. “Market”)

  2. Select the field type

  3. Define options or logic

  4. Assign the field to content types

Where are Custom Fields used?

In daily work, you’ll find them directly in the content ticket within the pipeline.

There you can:

  • Select values

  • Enter data

  • Edit existing entries

Custom Fields vs. Tags

Custom Fields

Tags

Structured input

Free text

Consistent terminology

Error-prone

Easy to filter & analyze

Quick but less precise

Ideal for teams

Better for spontaneous use

Conclusion

Custom fields create clear structures, improve data analysis, and enable consistent teamwork.
Tags can still be useful for quick solutions—but should ideally be replaced by structured fields in the long run.
