Introduction

The Newsroom view is a new view within Strategic Topic Planning in contentbird. It complements the familiar table and kanban views with a strategic perspective: instead of just showing the structure of your topics, it shows how well a topic is covered content-wise, who is responsible for it, and how relevant it's currently rated. This article explains what the Newsroom view does, how to set it up, and how to use it day to day.

Feature Overview

The Newsroom view is a third perspective on your topics, stories, and content pieces – alongside table and kanban.

  • Table view: shows the structure of your topic planning (topic → story → content piece).

  • Newsroom view: shows the strategic state of that structure – at a glance, per topic:

    • Score – how relevant/actionable is the topic right now?

    • Ownership – who is responsible?

    • Briefing – tone, key message, and dos/don'ts that apply to all related stories

Topics can be sorted by score in the Newsroom view, so priorities are immediately visible. Scoring is currently done manually via a star rating; contentbird automatically calculates an average from it. Automated, AI-based scoring is planned but not yet available.

Usage and Setup

Opening the Newsroom view

  1. Go to Planning → Strategic Topic Planning.

  2. Switch between the Table, Kanban, and Newsroom views at the top.

One-time setup (for admins)

Before teams start working with the Newsroom view, two things should be set up once:

1. Set permissions

  • Administration → Project → Details

  • Assign a Manager for Strategic Topic Planning

  • The Newsroom view is visible by default to admins, managers, and authors

2. Configure scoring

  • Administration → System → Strategic Topic Planning → Scoring

  • Define your scoring dimensions, e.g. timeliness, reach potential, SEO potential, production effort

  • Set weightings – all dimensions together must add up to 100%

Scoring dimensions can only be configured by admins or Strategic Topic Planning managers. All other users rate topics via the star rating.

Use Cases

  • Prioritizing in editorial meetings: Sort topics by score and immediately see which ones are currently most relevant.

  • Clarifying ownership: See at a glance which topics still lack an assigned owner.

  • Checking briefing quality: Identify topics with missing or incomplete briefings before new stories and content pieces are created from them.

Summary

The Newsroom view complements the structural view of the table with a strategic assessment of your topics. Score, ownership, and briefing are visible in one place, making priorities easier to spot as a team. Once set up – permissions and scoring dimensions via Administration – it can be used directly in your everyday editorial work.
