Below we describe how to integrate your advent calendar on a test basis and what you should keep in mind when testing.

How to integrate with deactivated time control

  • To integrate the advent calendar on your website, create a campaign; to do this, go to 'Live integration'.

  • First, see if there are any error messages about the advent calendar and fix them.

  • Click on the big 'Update' button.

  • Click on the big 'Create new campaign' button.

  • Now create either a JavaScript or IFrame campaign (we recommend the JavaScript campaign; for more info, see our Advent Calendar How-to Guide on p. 30).

  • Give the campaign a unique name, e.g. 'Advent Calendar 2017'.

  • For the start date, already enter the final start date of the advent calendar; in most cases, 12/01.

  • IMPORTANT for the test integration: Click on the checkbox "Deactivate time control" so that you can view all doors.

  • Do the rest as you would with any other integration. Here is the help for JavaScript integration and IFrame integration.

Testing? what you should pay attention to

Once you have integrated the advent calendar, you can start testing.

Please note: You are responsible for the correct content and settings.

You should check the following points:

  • Test in all major browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge/Internet Explorer and Safari.

  • Test on different devices: Desktop PC, iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone, etc.

  • Can all the little doors be opened and is the content inside displayed correctly?

  • Can all interactive content (quiz, type check, find-the-couple, etc.) be played through?

  • If you are running sweepstakes: Can leads be submitted and do they arrive in the backend (help text for exporting lead data)?

  • Have you activated all desired fields in the lead form and configured desired mandatory fields as required?

  • Have you stored the correct conditions of participation and data protection declarations?

  • If you publish the Advent calendar in multiple languages: Please remember that you need to test each Advent calendar.

  • If you want to track clicks on advertising banners (e.g. for advertising partner reporting): Have you stored your own tracking links and do they work?

  • Have you tested the timing? This is a separate point, as you can only do this in advance in a test run within contentbird Convert. To do this, you need to activate the time control again in the group and select a test scenario in the test run. (You can read how to do this in the How-to-Guide on p. 27).

  • When you have worked through all these points, please send the link of your integration to convert-support@contentbird.io.

Important: If you change anything after this testing, you must always remember to update in the live integration - both the advent calendar and the individual door formats must be updated when changes are made.

Afterwards, take another close look at your advent calendar on your website.

Important: Before you finally go live, here's what else you should do:

  • Make a final check on your test page and in the settings in contentbird Convert.

  • To activate the timer, go to the live integration. Under the two big buttons you will find your created campaign in the table. Click on the name to edit the campaign. Go to "Edit details" at the bottom and uncheck "Disable timing". Save the setting.

  • Go back to the live Advent calendar integration and click the 'Refresh' button.

  • Check your website to make sure that the time control is enabled correctly.
