Introduction
The Backlog / Ideas pipeline helps you centrally collect and organize new topics and content suggestions. Here, you and your team can capture, evaluate, and prioritize ideas before turning them into actual content.
Function Overview
Backlog / Ideas is a dedicated area in contentbird specifically designed for ideas and topic suggestions. It serves as a central place to answer the question: What content should we create next?
The view is similar to the regular content pipeline but is exclusively used for ideas. This means that only suggestions are collected here—content is not yet planned or approved at this stage.
You can find the Ideas pipeline in the menu under:
Creation → Content Pipeline → Backlog / Ideas
Usage and Setup
Create a new idea
To create a new content idea, follow these steps:
Click on “Create content idea”
Fill in the relevant fields, such as title, topic, story, or persona
Click “Create” to save the idea
The idea will immediately appear in the pipeline and can then be reviewed by your team.
Observers—such as subject matter experts from other departments or external contributors—can also create content ideas. This allows more people to contribute suggestions without having to create content themselves.
Statuses in the Ideas/Backlog pipeline
By default, there are two statuses for ideas:
Idea
Backlog (rejected) – the idea is currently not being pursued but remains stored
If an idea is no longer needed, you can also delete or archive it.
Convert an idea into content
If an idea is ready to become actual content, you can convert it directly into a content ticket:
Open the relevant content idea
Click on “Convert to content”
Select the appropriate content type (e.g., blog post or social media post)
Optionally define workflow or status
After conversion, a new content ticket is automatically created and appears in the standard content pipeline.
Conclusion
Backlog / Ideas serves as the strategic entry point for new content in contentbird. It ensures that ideas are collected in a structured way without overloading the operational content pipeline. At the same time, it enables your team to evaluate suggestions collaboratively and develop the best ideas into concrete content.
