Overview
You can mention people and companies (@mentions) in LinkedIn posts published from contentbird. LinkedIn sets a few rules for this. They apply to every tool that publishes via the LinkedIn interface. Here’s what works and what to do if a tag is missing.
How to add a mention
Type @ and the first letters of the name in the post text.
Select the matching suggestion from the list.
Check the preview to make sure the mention was recognized.
Important: If you only type the name without selecting a suggestion, it will be published as plain text. contentbird shows you a notice in this case.
Mentioning people
LinkedIn only allows mentioning people if all three conditions are met:
You publish via a company page. You can’t mention other people from a personal profile.
The person follows your company page.
The person allows mentions in their LinkedIn privacy settings.
💡 Tip for identical names: If several profiles share the same name, use the profile name from the LinkedIn URL. Example: linkedin.com/in/jane-doe-12345 → @jane-doe-12345
Mentioning companies
You can mention other company pages from your company page.
Showcase pages can’t be tagged on LinkedIn at all, not even directly in LinkedIn. Add the link to the showcase page to your text instead.
Why is a tag missing in the published post?
If LinkedIn can’t resolve a mention (e.g. because the person doesn’t follow the page or doesn’t allow mentions), LinkedIn removes the @ automatically. The name then appears as plain text.
Sometimes LinkedIn only links the first name. This is standard LinkedIn behavior for mentions via the interface.
What you can do: Open the post directly on LinkedIn after publishing and add the tag there manually.
No suggestions are shown
If only a loading icon appears after the @, try the following:
Open contentbird in an incognito window or a different browser
Clear your browser cache and cookies
Briefly disable browser extensions
If that doesn’t help, a firewall in your company may be blocking the search. Please contact your IT team or get in touch with us.
Good to know
Formatting: Use
<b>text</b>for bold and<i>text</i>for italics.Multiple links: LinkedIn only shows a preview for one link, and LinkedIn decides which one. For a reliable preview, use only one link per post.
Alt texts for images can currently only be added directly on LinkedIn.
Summary
Mentions work most reliably when you post via a company page and select the suggestion from the list. If a tag is still missing, you can add it directly on LinkedIn. To learn how to connect LinkedIn, see LinkedIn Integration. If you have any questions, feel free to contact contentbird support.
